Charleston, SC Photo Dump: Part 2

Yay, another crazy conflagration of photos!

*NOTE* My zoom lens has almost zero saturation and is sort of blurry, and PicMonkey is on the fritz so I can’t tweak it. So I apologize for the dull and slightly fuzzy photos.

Fort Sumter: Day Two

This had to be the highlight of the trip for me. I wasn’t going to leave Charleston without going!

This absolutely humongous tanker pulled into the dock just as we were getting on the ferry.

You had to drive over this super cool bridge to get to the other side of the bay. It was so long!

I was dangling quite precariously off the side of the ferry, which we had to ride for half and hour while some guys spouted facts through a loud speaker, to get these pictures. I’m quite proud of them, actually.

Apparently there are three forts in the Charleston Harbor area: Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, which you could see very faintly from Fort Sumter, and Fort Johnson, this one. I didn’t know that before.

The first view of Fort Sumter, featuring a photobombing pelican. XD I always forget how many birds there are at the beach until we go there. (And both times I’ve gone to the beach, a seagull has tried to steal my trail mix. XD)

Yay! It looked so pretty/awesome… *sighs*

All of the cannon holes (there should be a better name for those) were blocked up. The lighter bricks are the original outlines, then the inside are where they were blocked.

Thanks for the photobomb, bro. *rolls eyes*

 *bursts into song* America, America…

There was a ton of these old cannons everywhere. There was one behind each one of the blocked up holes in the walls.

IMG_8006_LI For all my Hamilfans out there… I saw this on a map of the forts in America, inside the visitors center, and had to get a snap for you all. 😉

This cormorant was sitting under the dock when we go there, and was swimming around the dock when we left. People were throwing him treats, so I think he hangs around there because he knows he’ll get handouts. *shrugs* That’s what I’d do, anyway.

There you are!

I’ll probably do the next part on Friday, so I can get them all finished.

Have a lovely evening!

My Favorite Things About Autumn + NaNoWriMo Prep

Haha, I was all ready to post Monday, then I remembered I had a writing panel to attend.

The panel went great, though! Gillian Bronte Adams, Kate Emmons, and Kara Swanson were answering questions. It was so cool!

So, since it’s *finally* starting to feel like autumn, I decided to get into the mood by posting about why I love the gorgeous-est of seasons. And after that, I’ll do a quick interview with a few of my characters from When The Phoenix Calls, which I’ll be writing the sequel of for NaNoWriMo.

bella-divider-4.jpg    Reason Number One: Sweaters!

Sweaters, okay? ‘Nuff said. Watch me proceed to say more.  They’re like big fluffy hugs that you wear! They’re so warm and lovely and ugh. I had a lovely sweater once, named Colette. She was a very nice sweater. But I outgrew her. 😥  I still continue the search for a sweater of equal value. (That turned into an unplanned sweater rant.)

Reason Number Two: Warm Fall-ish Foods.

Soups, hot chocolate, chili, anything pumpkin spice… Fall arguably has the best comfort food ever. Fight me. (No, don’t, you’d win.)

Reason Number Three: The Weather!

Fall has such nice, not-too-cold, not-too-warm weather. Goldilocks perfect, if you will. And that crisp tinge to the air… Bliss!

Reason Number Four: The Photogenic Scenery.

Autumn has such gorgeous scenery! The trees look like they’re on fire with colors. Red, orange, gold… It’s breathtaking!

Reason Number Five: It’s Almost Winter.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I love fall, hate winter. But in the winter, I get lots of writing done! I can curl up in a pile of fuzzy blankets with my laptop and some chai tea and go into hibernation, only emerging for Nutcracker season. And maybe some social interaction so I don’t go insane? (Nevermind, I have Goodreads for that.)

Okay, so I’m going to interview Skye Foster, who has been here before, Finn Skylark, my supporting MC, and Calvin Tallbeam, my antagonist. Skye’s answers will be this color, Finn’s will be this color, and Cal’s will be this color. My questions will be bolded.

Oh, come on, why do I get orange? Why don’t I get a cool color like you guys?

Don’t be a baby, Cal.

I’m not! I just don’t like orange, that’s all.

Well, deal with it. We’re here for an interview, remember? These people don’t want to hear you complain.

Fine. But you owe me a complaint session.

That’s not even a-

Boys, really. Can we actually answer some questions?

Of course! Anything for the lovely lady. *bows*

*sighs* Shut up and pay attention.

What does your author have in store for you?

Ooo, ooo ooo!! Me me me! *raises hand*

*rolls eyes* We’re not totally sure, since she won’t tell us everything. But lots of betrayal, battles, and almost-deaths, as far as I’m aware.

And we’re so thrilled about that.

Would you look at that! He CAN be sarcastic!

Shut up.

Are any of you in a relationship?

Ha, we all know the answer to this one. *points at Finn and Skye and mimes gagging*

As Calvin made very clear, yes, Finn and I are together.

Someone’s just jealous ’cause they’ve never had a girlfriend.

Don’t go there.

Who do you consider to be your best friend?

Besides Skye, I would have said Calvin at one point. But now… *glares*

Hey, it’s not my fault I have big dreams.

Uh, yeah, it sort of is.

*sarcastically* Oh, that’s right, because we have an audience we’re not allowed to have a simple conversation. My mistake. By all means, continue your pointless chatter.

*sighs* My best friend in the human world is a girl named Brenna Castilo. I don’t have many friends othewise, I’ve always been sort of a loner. Till I met Finn, anyway.

What is one of your main ambitions?

I’ve always wanted to go to school for music, preferably at Julliard or Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. I don’t know if it will ever happen, but it’s always been a dream of mine.

I never put a lot of thought into what I wanted to do, since there’s not many options here in Eeranthoi. But I’ve always been good at fencing and archery, so there’s always that. Plus those videos humans make are cool, the ones they put online? I kind of think I’d be good at that.

Wait… You want to be a YouTuber?

*bursts out laughing*

*blushes* It could happen!

Sure. Me, I’m the ultimate conqueror! I’ve got this kingdom wrapped around my finger, and I’ve been planning for it since I was ten. Take that, YouTuber. *laughs*

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Watch your backs, because after Eeranthoi, I’mma comin’ for Earth!

Ignore Calvin’s slang. And stay strong.

Keep fighting, especially when you’re writing. I’ve heard we characters are quite hard to manage. *smirks*

bella-divider-4 There you are! Hope you enjoyed my slightly pyschotic antagonist. He’s a handfull. XD

Some Updates, A New Design, and Some Random Photos (To Appease My Angry Mob).

*hides ashamedly*

I need to get my game together.

I am so, so, sorry for keeping you guys hanging. I’m adjusting my blogging schedule to Monday and Friday, so I don’t have dance on my posting days. And hopefully I’ll be able to write posts that keep you guys interested.

Now on that note, you may have noticed that I updated my blog design. I felt like it needed a revamp, that I wanted it to look more professional. I changed the theme, redid my pages, and Charis @ Charis Rae designed me a new header and signoff! Thank you so much, Charis! I hope the new design is more professional looking to you all, and easier to navigate.

I got glasses! They’re just for reading, to try and fix my frequent headaches. Everyone says they make me look studious, and I seriously say, “They are just glasses! What about glasses makes people think you look smart?” And I get weird looks. XD I like wearing them, though. They’re a reddish-purple color.

I started dancing three day a week. I really love dancing three days a week, especially since one of the classes is the class above ours age group. It’s a mandatory class for them, but optional for us, so it’s hard, which I love. It’s also taught by one of my favorite teachers (even if I do have a love-hate relationship with him.)

I got a Goodreads. I’ve actually had an account for a while, but I can’t remember if I announced it in a post, so if you have an account and would like to friend me, go right ahead!

I started high school. I’m still homeschooled, of course, but I entered the ninth grade! I’m excited to be a Freshman.

I turned fourteen! My birthday was the twenty-first. My dad wants to buy a broken down old car and fix it for me to use as my car once I’m able to drive, so he plans on getting one this year so we have a year and a half to work on it. I’m so excited!

We got another goat.  He’s a buck, and his name is Cash, after Johnny Cash. (We did not name him that, I promise. He came with it. XD)

I’ve taken some random photos here and there that don’t make up a whole post, so here’s a few of my favorites.

I took this picture of my little sister, Camie, while we were watching the eclipse. Isn’t she so cute?

We went down to the creek by our house last week, to celebrate the end of summer, and I got this cool picture of ripples in the water.

The next three pictures I got when I climbed a deer trail on the bank of the creek up into our neighbors cornfield. The deer have an entire corner of the field trampled down.

And my mom technically took this picture, but it was too cool not to share! At our friends Fourth of July celebration, my friend Owen decided to draw his name with sparklers and have my mom photograph it. He’s not fast enough at drawing his name backwards to actually make it look like this, so I reversed it so you could read it. 😉 I love how you can see his blurred form in the background from where he drew it.

Let’s chat!

Let me know what you think of my new schedule, my blog design, and my pictures! I’m always looking for critique (as long as it’s polite!)

Rip It or Ship It

Hey guys! Since I’m sick (😢) with nothing to do, I decided to try my hand at Rip It or Ship It! The lovely Eden tagged me for this challenge, so thanks, Eden!! The rules are:

  1. Write down names of characters on slips of paper.
  2. Draw two names.
  3. Decide if they would make a good ship, or if they get ripped.

The desicion is up to me, meaning I decide what makes the two a rip, or a ship. I’m going with:

Compatibility: Would they kill each other? Drive each other pyscho?

Ship Name: It has to have a good name, or otherwise… Ripped!

Here we go!

#1. Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice and Vane Westerly for the Skyfall Trilogy.

Oh dear, no. Vane is like the king of snark, and Lizzy wouldn’t take any of his shenanigans. Plus, Vanebeth? No. This ship is ripped.

#2. Ron Weasley from Harry Potter and Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Yay, an actual ship!! Even if Ron is a bit of a jerk sometimes, I still think they’re adorable together! I ship it!

giphy (1).gif

#3. Kahlen from The Siren and Harry Potter from Harry Potter.

Ugh… I don’t think so. Kahlen’s just so sensitive and sweet, plus she’s nuts for Akinli. I’m not saying Harry’s not nice, he’s just… Sort of oblivious. Ripped!

#4. Kai from The Lunar Chronicles and Cath Pinkerton from Heartless.

Hmm… Kai is the Ruler of New Beijing, and Cath is the daughter of a Marquess. Plus, they’re the same author! I think I ship it! Ship name: Kath. Pretty much just a different spelling of Cath’s name, but oh well!

#5. Jest from Heartless and Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I think they might get along okay, but (SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!) Jest is dead, and I’m not sure how Ginny would do with a court joker. This ship is ripped!

#6. Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles and Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice.

Um… No. These two would not get along. Cinder is a mechanic, and Mr. Darcy doesn’t seem that type. Also, I think he’d be kind of prejudiced (see what I did there?) against Cinder’s cyborg parts? That might be just me though. Either way, this ship is ripped!

#7. Mahdi from The Waterfire Saga and Audra from the Skyfall Trilogy.

Ya know, I actually ship this! Mahdi and Audra are both serious, kick-butt characters who are head-over-heels for their SO. Mahdi is a merman and Audra is a sylph, but I think they could make it work. Ship name: Maudra. I love it!

giphy (2).gif

#8. Akinli from The Siren and Serafina from The Waterfire Saga.

And whaddya know, I ship this too. Akinli is a tad more ‘jokey’ then Mahdi, but I think Sera would still like him. Also, Sera is a mermaid,  and Akinli’s original girl, Kahlen, is a siren. So both watery ladies. I ship it! Ship name: Serakinli. Not the best, but I’ll let it slide. I ship!

So there you are, my lovelies!

What do you think of the couples I drew? Are there any you don’t ship? Let me know!

Mini-Photoshoot: Books and BIBPC

It’s a widely known fact that I’m am addicted to books.

I eat books, breathe books, and frequently lose sleep to books.

And as the current BIBPC category is Books, I did a mini-photoshoot with some of my books! See if you can guess what each book is. 😉 I’ll leave secret notes beneath each picture of a new book, if you can’t guess. I’m on Team Kiwi.

Queen Anne’s Lace looks so pretty with books. *dreamy sigh*

No peeking! This book is Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. 😉

This book is Heartless, by Marissa Myer. It made me cry. You have been warned. XD

This is my BIBPC entry. Clara and Ilsa should be able to guess this book. 😉 (Megan just pointed out Clara’s link was wrong… Sorry!)

It’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for non-Potterheads.

This book should be easy to guess. 😉 If it’s not, what rock have you been living under for the last two decades?!

I hope you like these pictures! What would you like to see that is dance related? I already did a dance bag tour and pointe shoe tutorial, so if there’s anything else you’d like to see, make sure to let me know!!

I almost hit the publish button, then realized I’d typed Harry Potter as Harry Pooter. That would have been unfortunate. XD

BIBPC The Fifth, Category Two

Hey guys! I’m going to keep it short and sweet today, because dance is starting this evening (!!!!) and I have to do my ‘dance bag inventory’ before I go. XD So, I am on Team Kiwi!

The category is Circles.

It was really dewy one morning, and this spider web (complete with itty-bitty spider!) was on our garden fence. Since I was carrying my camera (of course) I snapped a picture! I love the concentric circles in spider webs, plus the tiny dew drops!

Would you guys like to see a ‘back to ballet’ type post? Leave ideas of what you want to see in the comments below!

I just finished ‘Heartless’ by Marissa Myer….. There were tears. 😥

Charleston, SC Photo Dump: Part 1

Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t post yesterday, my dad came back from a four–wheeling trip with a broken heel (which I didn’t even know was possible?) So that threw me off schedule a little.

But on the bright side, my little jellybeans, you get to browse some of my extensive collection of vacay photography! Yay for you!!

Okay, so can I just say this place is stinking awesome???? It’s a ginormous cypress and tupelo swamp, with a 1 3/4 mile long boardwalk through the forest.

After we drove the majority of the night, we decided to stop and check this place out. It’s definitely off the beaten path, as my dad got lost on the way there, which never, and I mean never, happens.

But when we finally managed to get there, it was so worth it. A lot of the trees are one hundred feet tall, and some are at least 1,000 years old. O_o I’m not used to South-East humidity and heat, being from Ohio, so it took some getting used to, but there’s nothing like walking almost two miles in yoga pants with a camera bag on your back to get you used to it!

We saw this tiny fawn curled up at the base of one of the trees near the boardwalk. My siblings named it Speckles. XD

I think they need to work on their faces… XD The boardwalk was about six feet off the ground, to show you how high the water really was.

Some of the cypress knees were as tall as I am… So around 5′ 7”.

I think this was a tupelo tree, though it may have been a small cypress. I love how the bark looks.

This tree was huge… My arm span is 57”, and they didn’t even make it halfway. (Credit to my mom for the picture, considering I was hugging a tree.)

My bird pictures… I captioned each one with the species, if anyone’s curious. You know you are.

My brother spotted this huge Yellow-bellied Slider about halfway around the boardwalk.

My little sister…. Her name’s Camilla, and we call her Camie.

There was a big viewing platform at the end of the boardwalk, before you turned around and walked back. This turtle thought we were worth checking out.

She found a snail. XD (The humidity did that to her hair… O_o)

She was scared of getting left behind, probably because my brothers kept looking for alligators, so any time anybody got ahead, she’d race to catch up. 🙂

And apparently my mom and brother thought this tree deserved a face… XD

So there you are! I’ll post more pictures soon, but I didn’t want to overwhelm you! Have a lovely night (or day)!

Dance starts back up next week… I can’t wait! 😂

#TheReadingQuest TBR

Hi everyone! I would’ve posted Wednesday and Friday, but I was sick. 😥 So, I’m officially back, and I have a fun post today!

I’m participating in #TheReadingQuest, hosted by Aentee at Read at Midnight. It’s a reading challenge, in a video-game style. Each book gives you a certain amount of Health Points and Experience points, based on number of pages and other criteria, and you level up the character of your choosing based on the number of Experience Points. You can check out the whole post at the link up there. I’m being a Rogue because Rogue One and also ’cause he looks cool.

The ‘playing board’ is based on a bingo board, and each character follows a different path. I’m on the Fifth Across path.

All of the art for this challenge was done by CW of Read, Think, Ponder. I went and checked out her blog, and her art is amazing!

And now for the fun part… The books I’m reading for it!! (The book thumbnails link to Goodreads, for your convenience.)

A Banned Book

This is one of those books that people say, “Oh, have you read this book yet?” And I’m like, “no.”

A Book Cover With A Partially Obscured Face

Ahhh! I’m so excited to read this! It’s been on my TBR since I started reading KOTLC, plus I ordered all three (!!!!) so it’ll be mine, all mine! *laughs evilly*

A Book With <500 Ratings On Goodreads

Hey, May…. *wink wink* I’ll let you know when I get it from the library! (This book has 1,284,459 ratings. 😮 )

A Book Published By A Small Press

Still deciding on this one… My grandmother’s friend owns a very small local press, so I’ll probably get my hands on one of the books she’s published.

A Book With A One Word Title

Yay! I’m so excited to read this series! Edie fangirls about this a lot, so I’m excited!

And, if I have time, I’ll do another path, either the Mage or the Knight.

I’m so super-duper excited about this!! It seems like a great way to dig into the TBR that is threatening to eat me alive. Seriously, my TBR on Goodreads is the same length as my Read list. No joke. 😥

I have big plans for Monday, so I’ll see you then!!

My little sister was just ‘oinking’ Twinkle Twinkle Little Star…. O_o

#WIPJOY, The Liebster Award, The KOTLC Blogging Tag, and The Realisation That I Am, In Fact, Alive.

I’M ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

I’m super duper sorry for leaving you poor peeps in the lurch. I’ve been so crazy busy, not to mention Camp NaNo has had me in its clutches. I have VBS at my church next week, but hopefully I can get back to posting regularly. I missed you guys!!

But, I decided to catch up on my tags (since they’re fun, and also to give me time to finish organising my vaycay pics, which I took like two million of. #sorrynotsorry. Fort Sumter was so awesome, you guys! How could I not take a jillion pictures?) So, I’ll be doing the Keeper of the Lost Cities Blogging Tag, The Liebster Award, and #WIPJOY for y’all tonight. The lovely Eden also nominated me for Rip It or Ship It, but that will be a whole post of its own. So many characters and so little time.  So here we go!

Mya nominated me for her Keeper of the Lost Cities Blogging Tag. Squee!! Thanks, Mya!!

Le Rules:

  • Thank the blog who nominated you.
  • List the rules.
  • Answer the ten questions about KOTLC that are listed.
  • Nominate 5 people who are KOTLC fans.

Le Questions:

Who is your favorite KOTLC character? If it is Sophie, who is your second favorite?

What are your KOTLC ships?

TEAM FOSTER-KEEEFFFFEEEE!!!!!! Since Keefe can’t *technically* be my boyfriend, I ship him with Sophie! Ignoring technicalities he is MINE!

I also ship Biana and Tam, just a smidge. Even Tam reminds me of Nico di Angelo, with the Death Boy vibe, and Biana’s so sweet and innocent, I think they’d be cute.

Which book is your favorite?

Gah, I don’t know. Probably Neverseen or Lodestar.

Which book is your least favorite?

Probably the first. The rest have more action, which I love, and more Keefe, which I love more, so win-win.

Do you like Keefe or Tam better?

I think I’ve made this clear. ‘Nuff said.

Do you like Biana or Linh better?

I really don’t know. At first I would have said Linh, since Biana is like a total girly-girl, but then Biana went and fell in love with Iggy and I was like, “I think I underestimated her. Whoever can deal with Iggy is heroic.” So, I’m still indecisive. Guess I’ll have to wait until Nightfall to find out!

Who do you think Sophie’s biological parents are?

You know, I actually don’t have any theories on this. I was sort of considering Kenric, but then Mr. Forkle (RIP) said it wasn’t him, so I left off theorizing.

How many stars would you rate the series (out of five stars)?

Are you excited for Nightfall?

Have you preordered Nightfall yet?

Well, I preordered it for Charis, and I borrow the books from her, so yes?

Hehe, the only people I know of who have read these got nominated by Mya… OH OH OH!! Anika, you didn’t! So I nomiate Anika, and anyone else who likes Keeper that I may not know about. Enjoy!

Rebecca from Joy Unspeakable nominated me for the Liebster Award. Thanks, Rebecca!

Have fun!!!

If you haven’t noticed, I love talking about my writing. So what better way to do it than a WIP tag? I’ll be talking about When The Phoenix Calls, my NaNo novel.

Like Charis and Eden, I won’t be doing all of the questions, because dang, that’s a lot of questions for a sleep-deprived girl at eleven PM- when I was writing this. (I was watching Rogue One, I had an excuse, okay?)

Describe your WIP.

Skye Foster has always been a little out of the ordinary. She has the Sight, a blessing and a curse. With the ability to see fantasy creatures, she has noticed that more restless and destructive creatures are appearing on Earth. When she meets an elf by the name of Finnigan Skylark, he tells her the irreplaceable Twilight Crystal, which protects the borders between the land of Eeranthoi and Earth, has been stolen by an unknown criminal. When Finn takes Skye to Eeranthoi, her courage is put to the test as she is forced to flee the kingdom, under false accusations of being the thief. Can Skye and Finn restore peace between Eeranthoi and Earth, or will life as they know it be changed forever?

*cringe* I need a better synopsis.

Describe your MC’s aesthetic in 7 phrases.

images (1).jpg

• kind • loyal • fierce to her enemies • skilled with a dagger • musical • blue-eyed • dreamer •

I’m bad at aesthetics…

WOULD YOU RATHER: Be trapped in your story for a week, or have your antagonist enter your own life for a day?

Oh dear… I’d love to be in my story, but I may be killed in the course of that week, considering Skye and Finn are outcasts at the moment. And if my antagonist, Calvin, came to my home for a day, every girl in town would be following him around. I made him very handsome for a reason, and he’d probably get violent if he had fifty girls tailing him. Both?

Dish about a favorite side character!

FINN. FINN IS MY BABY AND HE’S AMAZING. He’s such a caring and supportive friend to Skye, not to mention gorgeous. AND HIS BEST FRIEND IS THE ANTAGONIST BUT HE DOESN’T KNOW IT. It’s beauty. *cackles evily*

WOULD YOU RATHER: Never publish this WIP, or watch it be adapted into a horrible movie?

Well, the movie wouldn’t be horrible if me or my any of my friends were directing, but that’s besides the point.  I’d really love to publish this WIP, since it’s the story I’ve felt most connected with out of any I’ve written. I’d suffer through the terrible movie and hope more people read the book.

Choose an ideal reading spot, food, drink, and music to go with your WIP.

When The Phoenix Calls is set mostly in Eeranthoi, a very wooded kingdom, so somewhere in the forest, very secluded, would be good for reading. A good drink would probably be tea or hot chocolate, depending on the time of year. I’m not really sure for food, probably chocolate because chocolate is good with everything. I’ve listened to a lot of tobyMac and Britt Nicole while writing this, but that doesn’t seem like a very good type of music to go with this. Maybe classical?

And, because I’m nice, a few snippets for you little lovelies.

I woke up to a pounding sound on my door. “Skye!” I sat up groggily. “What?” I yelled, rubbing my eyes. The door burst open, and Finn bounded in. “Come on, we’ve got to go!” “Where are we going?” I asked, jumping out of bed and throwing my hair in a quick ponytail. “No time! We’ve got to go!” I slipped on my shoes and followed Finn out the door and down the hallway. Finn broke into a run and called, “Follow me!” I had learned to obey first and ask questions later, so I started running after him. He led me down the halls and stairways that Cal had taken us down yesterday, then we passed by the throne room and to a set of towering double doors. Finn pushed them open and we ran out onto a long green lawn in front of the castle. Finn whistled as we ran, and Ara the Pegasus swept down and started cantering beside us. Need a lift?  “Yes please,” Finn panted, and he grabbed her mane and swung himself on. “Come on, Skye!” He held out his hand. Hoping that he wouldn’t let me fall, I grabbed his hand. He pulled with amazing strength, and I found myself on Ara’s back again. She thrust with her wings and shot us up into the sky.

“So what’s the problem?” I asked Finn. “There wasn’t one,” He said, leaning back across Ara’s back. “I just wanted to see how you reacted to the whole ’emergency’ act.” he made air quotes around emergency. “Seriously? You woke me up for no reason?” “Yep,” Finn said. I glared at him, then poked his stomach. “Hey!” he sat up. I laughed. Looking around, I realized how early it was in the morning. The edge of the horizon was glowing with red, orange, and gold, and the sun was an neon pinprick over the sea. “So, since you woke me up so early, what are we going to do?” “I was thinking I could kind of show you around, let you see what you didn’t on the way to the castle,” Finn said, looking off towards the neon pinprick of a sun. “Maia and Rae will be up already, and Alyssa better be, so we can go see them, too.” “Who are they?” I asked. He gave me a mischievous grin. “Oh, you’ll see.”

He picked up a sword and said, “I don’t think this is your style.” “No,” I agreed. “Too manly.” He smirked and held out a bow. “Try this. Pull back the string.” I took the bow and almost dislocated my arm trying to pull back the string. “Definitely no,”  Finn laughed and hung up the bow. Our fingers brushed together as he took it from me, and his smile faltered. I could feel my cheeks growing red, and I tried to cover it by saying, “What about this?” I picked up a sheathed knife off of a stand. I pulled off the sheath and pointed the knife at Finn. “Any last words?” I said threateningly. Finn laughed and said, “Maybe. Let’s try this one instead.” He picked up two sheathed daggers and held them out. I sheathed the previous one and unsheathed one of the offered ones. The silver blades were curved, more like a hunting knife then a dagger, and they were covered with etched swirls on the flat. It felt perfectly balanced in my hand, and I mimed stabbing something. “I like it,” I said. “Well, there’s two of them. Can you fight with double daggers?” “Let’s find out,” I said, and handed him the first one I’d tried. “Dagger on dagger?” I said. “I like the way you think,” Finn said, and handed me the other knife. I set the sheathes aside and put one in each hand. “Here, let me help,”  Finn said, and turned the blades so the sharp edge was facing out. “Begin.” Finn held out his blade.  I tried to remember everything I’d ever seen in movies, and I lunged and slashed towards his arm. He raised the knife in defense, and I knocked it out if his grip with my other blade. Finn raised his hands and said, “I think you’ve got this figured out. It’ll be much harder against a sword, but you’re smaller and quicker then most people who use swords, so you should be able to defend yourself just fine.” He bent down to pick up the knife and paused. “You won’t attack me, will you?” “Perish the thought!” “I wish you hadn’t used perish,” he mumbled. I laughed. “Would you help me fasten these to my belt?” “Sure.” He took the knifes from my hands and kneeling, fastened the sheathes to my belt loops, one on either side. “There you go, I think you’re ready for battle.” Finn stood. We were nose-to-nose. He held my gaze for a moment too long, then I turned away, blushing fiercely. Finn cleared his throat and said, “Well, we’d better head towards the ocean, if we want to get there in time to spend a while there. I’ll call Ara when we get outside, okay?” I nodded silently. Finn looked like he wanted to say something more, but apparently thought better of it and turned away. I slid my new knifes into their sheathes and followed him out of the armory.

I used ‘sheathed’ way too much in this paragraph, but I haven’t done any editing, so I’ll be changing it up a bit.

We reappeared at the summit of the mountain, and my jaw dropped. “Wow.” The view was incredible, with a three-sixty panorama of the entire land, bathed in a stunning crimson sunset. I turned a full circle, taking it all in. Finn smirked. “You like it?” “It’s… amazing. Do many people come up here?” “Not as many you’d think. Truthfully, I think they get overwhelmed with it. I love it, but I’m different then all the others.” “Why’s that?” I said, throwing myself on the ground. “My sense of proportion, I guess. I’ve seen more then most elves see in their lifetime. That kind of sets me apart. Like this view, to me, is just a view. It’s an amazing view, nonetheless, but it’s just a view. To everyone else, it’s huge. They can’t comprehend it. They’re so used to their normal, down-to-earth lives that anything out of the ordinary is hard to understand for them. Even my own parents.” He sighed and sat beside me. “Sorry, I’m rambling.” “Oh, no, I like your rambling. It makes sense. They haven’t experienced what you have, so they don’t understand the beauty in it. That’s their loss, not yours.” Finn looked surprised, then grateful. “Do you understand everything?” I shrugged. “Maybe….” Finn laughed and playfully pushed my arm. Then he sobered. “Listen, Skye, there’s, um, something I’ve been wanting to tell you.” He ran his hand through his hair. “I-” He was cut off by a flash of light by our side. Cal and Willow appeared, much in the same way we had done. Cal brushed off his clothes and said, “Hey guys! You ready?” “Am I ever!” I jumped up, pulling Finn with me. I didn’t want to think about what Finn had been about to say to me. I was almost certain I knew what it would be, and the thought made me shiver.

*sigh* I love Finn so much. He’s my baby. It’s so obvious he likes Skye, right? Because that’s the one thing she’s clueless about. (Willow is Calvin’s sister, FYI.)

And there you are!!

Thanks so much for dealing with my disappearance, guys!!! I’ll try to post regularly after this, but I’ll apologize in advance for any skipped post days I may not inform you of. I should be back with Rip It or Ship It soon, so watch out for that!

Which tag did you like the best?

What do you think of When The Phoenix Calls?

And the most important question… Who is better, Keefe or Fitz? (The answer is Keefe.)

\\\Charis Rae Launch Tour///

Hey guys! I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry for not posting! June has been ridiculously busy for me, and in my spare seconds I procrastinated and surfed Goodreads (which I now have! Yay for me!) And I’m about to go on vacation, but I promise I’ll take a billion, jillion pictures and overload you to make up for my Bad Blogger phase.

But! Grace, at The Girl Upstairs, has made a new personal blog, Charis Rae, and is using her real name! (And I can finally call her Charisma on here…. I’ve been wanting to do that for forever.) I joined up for her blog tour, and I’m here with some info on the blog!! Let’s go!! (her name is pronounced CAIR-iss, rhymes with Paris, by the way. It’s Greek for Grace, hence her previous alias. 😉 )

A (Sort Of) Interview

(She just gave me some info, and I copied and pasted because I’m feeling lazy. XD)

About Charis:

Among many things, I am a dreamer, dancer, writer & photographer, blogger, bibliophile, and daughter of the King. I enjoy blogging and am excited to move my blog to the next level.

About Charis Rae:

Charis Rae is a self-hosted, more professional version of my former blog, The Girl Upstairs. After blogging for quite a while, I decided to switch to a more professional platform and share more about me, my life, and my name. 😉 On Charis Rae, I’m going to be sharing my interests, abilities, and journey through life and blogging, with all of you along for the ride.

Charis’s Blogging Journey:

My journey in the vast universe of the World Wide Web began at about age 9. My dad set up a private, Blogger-hosted blog read only by my friends and close family. I loved blogging, and although I wasn’t consistent, I enjoyed creating content.

Now, several years later, I am creating my own self-hosted, professional blogging platform.

Hopes for Charis Rae:

I hope that Charis Rae will become just as successful as The Girl Upstairs, but will reach more people, and eventually grow into something beyond my wildest dreams. I’m also excited to “learn the ropes” of self-hosting, coding, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store!

And here’s a link to the gorgeous awesome-ness that is Charis Rae!! Go check it out and hit that ‘follow’ button to support Charisma!
